DOT releases $155M for Chapter 90
April 02, 2010The Patrick administration today released $155 million in new Chapter 90 authorizations for fiscal 2011, which all 351 cities and towns can use for much-needed road and bridge repair and resurfacing projects.
This level of funding represents a $5 million increase from the prior year’s amount, though it is far short of the total amount available under a two-year transportation bond act. Chapter 303 of the Acts of 2008 authorized a total of $350 million that the Legislature intended be spent over two years, fiscal 2010 and 2011. The Patrick administration released $150 million last year and $155 million this year, leaving $45 million uncommitted. The MMA had urged the governor to release the total amount available for this year’s program.
According to MMA research, the actual annual Chapter 90 need is well over $300 million annually.
