2010 Annual Meeting planning is under way
July 29, 2009Plans are under way for the MMA’s 31st Annual Meeting & Trade Show, which will offer a variety of opportunities for MMA members to gain perspective on core elements of municipal governance, administration, planning, and “big picture” issues during these difficult fiscal times.
The 2010 event, to be held on Jan. 22 and 23 in Boston, will enable attendees to network with their peers and choose from a menu of timely workshops.
The MMA’s Annual Meeting is the largest annual gathering of municipal officials in New England, typically breaking attendance and exhibitor records each year. The 2009 Annual Meeting was attended by more than 1,000 local leaders and the Trade Show featured more than 225 exhibitors.
The MMA encourages new municipal officials, including selectmen elected this spring, to attend the event. As in past years, the first person to register for the conference will receive two complimentary tickets for the Saturday evening dinner.

The host hotel is the Sheraton Boston, and the Trade Show will be held at the newly renovated Hynes Convention Center. The Sheraton and Hynes are conveniently connected to one another, allowing easy access to all conference and Trade Show activities. All Annual Meeting events will be held at the Hynes except for evening functions, which will be held at the hotel.
In addition to workshops and the trade show, the two-day event features business meetings, speakers, receptions and other activities.
Those planning to attend are advised to make hotel reservations early due to the high demand for hotel rooms in Boston. The hotel has sold out during the MMA’s Annual Meeting each of the last seven years.
The MMA has negotiated a special room rate at the Sheraton of $155 for a single and $165 for a double, but the number of rooms at this rate is limited; they are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations must be made by Jan. 7 to take advantage of these rates.
In light of local budget constraints, the MMA is holding program registration rates at the same level as last year.
The advance registration rate for the two-day program is $140 for members and $250 for nonmembers. After the early registration deadline of Jan. 11, all registrations will be accepted on-site, with a rate of $175 for members and $315 for nonmembers. Advance registration for students is $75; walk-in registration is $100. MMA Business Partners qualify for member rates.
No Annual Meeting registrations can be accepted over the phone.
Hotel reservation forms should be returned directly to the hotel. Annual Meeting registration forms must be returned to the MMA, and registrants are urged to return their form with payment.
